Suspects arrested in watercraft theft ring spanning Saginaw, Midland, Roscommon, St. Clair, Gladwin counties

Two Saginaw County teens could live behind bars until nearly their 40s after Saginaw County sheriff's detectives connected them to a watercraft theft ring spanning five counties. Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel said 18-year-old Kochville Township resident Brent Schmidt and 18-year-old Zilwaukee resident Aaron Vaughn are charged with eight counts of criminal enterprise -- a felony with a 20-year maximum prison sentence and a $100,000 fine -- and one count of receiving and concealing over $1,000. Both teens remained behind bars at the Saginaw County Jail this afternoon after being arraigned at the Saginaw County Circuit Court today, officials say. They are suspected of stealing $80,000 worth of watercraft from Midland, Roscommon, Gladwin and St. Clair counties and attempting to sell them in Saginaw County, officials say.
