Mosquito control pays off in fight against West Nile

This year, testing indicates that about 31 in 1,000 mosquitoes carry the West Nile virus in Wayne County. In comparison, just 9 per 1,000 mosquitoes carry the virus in Midland County, and no human cases have been reported in Midland compared to 47 cases statewide.

In Midland County, about $1.5 million each year is set aside for mosquito control.
