Six citizens have filed to fill the remainder of Howard Schoenherr’s seat as Midland County commissioner of District 1. Schoenherr passed away on Sept. 17, and the county is required to fill his position within 30 days, which is next Tuesday, Oct. 16.

The deadline to file for the seat was 5 p.m. last Tuesday as Mark Authier, Nicolas Finley, Dave Jezowski, Jeanette Snyder, Sharron Such and Walter Woodruff all submitted applications. Next Tuesday, the board of commissioners will make their selection from the Sanford residents to fill the remainder of Schoenherr’s term through Dec. 31. On Jan. 1, 2013, the winner of a race between Democrat Authier and Republican Finley, who meet in the Nov. 6 general election, will begin a two-year term.
