Bullock Creek volleyball wins
Amy Siegel had six kills and five digs as Bullock Creek beat Chesaning 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 in Tri-Valley Conference Central volleyball on Wednesday. The Lancers (8-8-2, 2-0 TVC Central) are at the Northwood Tournament Saturday.

The Great Lakes Loons and Filling Midland's Cup are hosting a Family Fun Day and Food Giveaway on Saturday at Dow Diamond from 9 AM - 2 PM. The day includes hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, drinks, and groceries to go.

Sat Sep 22: Alzheimer's Walk @ Emerson Park
The 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place this Saturday at Emerson Park in Midland. Registration is at 9:00 AM and the walk begins at 10:00 AM. The goal for the event is to raise $62,000 and so far almost $40,000 has been raised.

Midland to build new trash collection areas
The Midland City Council has accepted a bid from Mount Pleasant-based JBS Construction for $34,642 to build two new enclosures downtown. The enclosures will be built in two downtown parking lots. One is bounded by Ellsworth, Ashman and Larkin streets, and the second is bounded by McDonald, Ann and Rodd Streets.

Despite drought, sugar beets enjoy bumper crop in Michigan
"Early results are encouraging," said Bob Boehm, manager of the Michigan Farm Bureau's commodity and marketing department. "The sugar beet crop is going to be one of the brighter crops in the state."
