The officer in command that day was demoted to patrol officer, while two officers were written up for the sound problems experienced from the body microphones needing new batteries. All six officers involved that day will return to full duty.
Officers also violated policy by not turning on the in-car audio, though it would not have likely captured any audio from outside of the vehicle. The names of the officers will not be released.
Acting Chief of Police, Brian Lipe, said that the officer disciplined failed to take a leadership role and failed to take command of the situation. He also noted that the other two officers will receive a written notice in their files stating they violated policy.
Community members in attendance relayed their anger toward city officials when the conference was opened up for questions. In response to council's comment of "we must move forward," one person's response was "moving forward is firing these six officers!" Many in attendance also showed their disapproval of city council's decision to not release the names of the officers, which community members said disrespected the officers NOT involved.
One audience member didn't hold back when he stood up and spoke. He suggested that City Manager Darnell Early step down because he has failed to diversify the police department. The man made sure to mention "my job is now to get y'all off city council."
The conference ended with Mayor Greg Branch saying the officers' discipline is the extent of justice within laws applicable to this venue and that the city will work with citizens and groups to improve the service of the police and city in the future.
