The terminal sports a more modern and functional design that encompasses 75,000 square feet of space. The state-of-the-art building provides updated space for ticketing, baggage handling, security and passenger amenities and is designed to be easy to maintain, efficient to operate and easily adaptable to meet future needs. In addition to a new terminal, the airport improvement project also includes new access roads and new short-term, long-term, rental and employee parking.
The project was funded through a combination of sources, including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) entitlement and discretionary funds, federal Passenger Facility Charges, local contributions and state apportionment funds. No local tax subsidies were used in the construction of the terminal. Construction of the new airport terminal created hundreds of jobs and involved eight primary contractors and dozens of subcontractors, the majority of which are based in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
