Midland area a step closer to becoming SmartZone
The Midland area is one step closer to attracting high-tech businesses and speeding the commercialization of ideas, patents and other opportunities after the state Legislature approved legislation to increase the number of SmartZones in Michigan, Rep. Jim Stamas announced today. House Bill 5246, which allows for three new state SmartZones, contains language that would allow Midland to compete for, and if selected by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, to create a SmartZone to be established based upon its proximity to the research resources of The Dow Chemical Co., Dow Corning Corp. and other high-tech firms in the region.
