West Nile virus found in Midland crow

The West Nile virus has turned up in a crow collected July 24 in northeast Midland. There have been no human West Nile virus cases reported from Michigan this year but activity in Michigan often peaks in August or September so residents need to maintain awareness throughout the summer, Tom R. Wilmot, of Midland County Mosquito Control, said. Ultra low volume fogging to control adult mosquitoes will be conducted in the area around the collection of this crow as soon as weather permits and will continue throughout the county as necessary, he added. Mosquito Control also will continue testing dead birds and adult mosquitoes from throughout the county. Surveillance results can be viewed at the Midland County Mosquito Control website.
